Hallsford Poultry

We have always wanted to add poultry to the farm and now is the perfect time. We are starting off slowly to see how it goes. They are free range, but get locked into their own home at night. So nature is not tempted.
- Low input, Quality Output
- Lovely temperament, Easy handling
- Hardy, Sound and Long Lived
- A number of Markets for the Finished Product
We strongly felt and still do, that in the current farming climate we needed a farming system that was Low Input based (Less susceptible to input prices changes) and had the opportunity to develop quality outputs where a premium could be sought in niche and developing, not commodity, markets.

“We are now able to supply our own eggs as we have added chickens to the farm. They can brought online and collected from our farmers markets” Helen Tomkins

Goals for our brood
Plan is to grow the herd so I can re-establish the breed as a growing breed.
I will establish a range of stock bulls that enhance the breed characteristics.
I have started to but the breed through the butchery and hope to increase sales of this amazing breed. For it to become a named meat.
I plan to sell females on to other rare native breeders and also for cross-breeding.
I may also cross-breed with local Galloways to increase our levels of meat that follows our strict breeding process.
To grow this rare native breed.
